CASTELLO DI VOLPAIA
An Historic Hamlet where Hospitality and Winemaking date back to 1172
Castello di Volpaia
The winery that produces the wine Chianti Classico operates within the walls of the Castello di Volpaia, a fortified village of medieval origin.
The Castello di Volpaia was built in the 11th century as a fortified village on the Florence/Siena border. Although only part of the original protective walls and two of its six towers are still standing, the medieval layout and buildings within the village are still intact, making Volpaia undoubtedly one of the best preserved villages of its period.
Since 1172 Volpaia is land of renown organic Chianti Classicos. Listed in the Wine Spectator’s TOP100 Volpaia is known all over the world for the beauty of its restored walled village. Volpaia has 4 villas and 5 apartments for rent, organises cookery classes and tastings.
The new generation is led by Federica who has started her project in the coastal Maremma areas, producing Vermentino and Cabernet Sauvignon under the Prelius labels.
