Riserva is the best representation of the tradition.
An iconic wine that the Mascheroni Stianti family have been producing since 1967, when only very few producers used to produce a Chianti Classico Riserva. It’s produced with 100% of Sangiovese coming from some of the highest vineyards of the Chianti. The unique microclimate and the soil composition of “macigno Toscano” donate to this Sangiovese some of its outstanding complexity and elegance. Wine Spectator gave 2015 vintage the highest rating a Chianti Classico has ever received, rating it even higher than Castello di Ama with its’ $400+ price tag, making it a very hard to get wine worldwide from then onwards. We have managed to secure a few bottles of 2016 which are now sold out and a few 2017 also gone out to our happy customers.
The vineyards of Volpaia, located between 300 and 600m. a.s.l., are between the highest of the Chianti region. This is one of the reasons why our Chianti Classico is renowned for its elegance and freshness with a rich bouquet of red fruits and spices.
The 2019 Castello di Volpaia’s Chianti Classico Riserva very much resembles the 2017. It’s big and juicy, with layers of dark fruit, bramble and an extremely long finish. It balances vibrant acidity against beautiful tannin and may have a long life ahead of it. Drink now or lay down in your cellar. Drink until 2045
Ratings are still to come out from main sources, stay on the lookout for updates!
