Coming from Feudi di San Gregorio’s very first planted vineyard, Piano di Montevergine is a wine that embodies elegance. This is the reason for which is was chosen to make a reserve wine. Feudi considers Piano di Montevergine to be their best representation of the Aglianico grape’s potential. The vineyard is on a high plateau at about 400 meters above sea level with a southern exposure in the area of Taurasi, and the conditions give rise to grapes that once transformed into wine, have very delicate tannins. The deep, sandy, volcanic soil gives an incredible elegance to the fruit. The wine is aged for 18 months in medium toasted new French barriques, with a further refinement in the bottle for a minimum of 24 months.
Its bright ruby-red colour indicates a healthy wine and one which imparts an intense, complex and harmonious bouquet: aromas of woodland berry fruits, cherries in liqueur, cloves, tobacco, sweet spices, herbs, graphite. Piano di Montevergine comes over as juicy, refined and well-defined on the palate. With the notable presence of some first-class tannins, other outstanding features are its firmness, elegance and lengthy finish.
A Taurasi that exhibits the Aglianico’s nobility with absolute ease, tempering its rustic character by adopting an international style in production. A Taurasi that succeeds in discovering the essence of Irpinia with sheer elegance and makes every mouthful a real pleasure.
Perfect with game, strong aged cheeses, roast and grilled lamb.
